Here are the ingredients, as well as supplements
that help with the process.
that help with the process.
Master Cleanse Ingredients:
-Distilled or filtered water
-Fresh squeezed lemon juice (I use bottled 100% organic lemon juice from Whole Foods Market. It doesn’t contain any other ingredients/preservatives – just lemon juice. Other sites say not to use canned, but I have opted for bottled juice.)
-Grade B (only) maple syrup
-Cayenne Pepper (I take Cayenne Pepper capsules – one at breakfast, one at lunch and one at dinner. I wasn’t a fan of the flavor, so the capsule is easier for me.)
Supplements:
-Psyllium Husk (a laxative – bulk powder or 2 capsules)
-Laxative tea (Smooth Move)
-Wheat Grass (5-7 tablets, depending on the serving size)
-Organic herb tea (decaffeinated)
-Sea salt (for a sea salt flush instead of psyllium husk and laxative tea – I prefer the psyllium husk/tea combo…)
-Hoodia (This is optional, but it does REALLY help curb your appetite. Make sure you get 100% hoodia, not a diet supplement with hoodia in it.)
Recipe:
#1 (single serving):
• 10 Ounces Filtered Water
• 2 Tablespoons organic Maple syrup (Grade B) • 2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice (approx ½ of a Lemon)
• 1/10 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
#2 (60 oz. daily serving):
• 60 Ounces Filtered Water
• 12 Tablespoons organic Maple syrup (Grade B)
• 12 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
• ½ Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
(I do prefer to make The Cleanse mixture in bulk – it’s easier to make it in the morning and put in a pitcher. That way I don’t have to take all the ingredients with me to work.)
A sample day:
-Take psyllium husk in the morning when you wake up
-For breakfast, have a serving of The Cleanse juice (since I make in bulk, I take about 1/3 of the container per meal)
-After drinking the “juice”, take a serving of the wheat grass
-Mid-morning, I drink an organic herbal tea (like peppermint or green tea)
-For lunch, have a serving of The Cleanse juice
-After drinking the “juice”, take a serving of the wheat grass
-Mid-afternoon, I drink an organic herbal tea
-For dinner, have a serving of The Cleanse juice (do not take wheat grass after dinner)
-About 2 hours before bedtime, I drink the laxative tea
The functions of each ingredient:
-Distilled/Filtered water – It’s the base of The Cleanse, and obviously VERY important to your body. If you have a filter on your tap, great, but if not, distilled water by the gallon from the store works as well. Make sure that you DO NOT use tap water or purified water. These have chemicals, which you are trying to eliminate from your body.
-Organic lemon juice (not from concentrate) – It’s best to use fresh squeezed organic lemon juice. I do prefer to use bottled 100% organic lemon juice, not from concentrate, as it is pure and doesn’t have any sugars or preservatives. The brand I use is Santa Cruz and I get mine at Whole Foods. The purpose of the lemon juice is to naturally cleanse your system and breakdown mucus and hardened matter, and help remove excess fat and waste. It also helps to curb your appetite.
-Grade B Maple Syrup – Make sure that it’s Grade B, not pancake syrup. This ingredient is rich with vitamins and minerals, and manganese which is essential to other enzymes for processing antioxidants and the production of energy. It’s also a good source of calcium, iron, magnesium, thiamin, zinc and riboflavin.
-Cayenne Pepper – Cayenne has two functions in the Master Cleanse, the first is to dilate the blood vessels (which boosts your metabolism and burns excess fat), and the second is to break down and dissolve mucus and toxins. It’s also a source of Vitamins B & C.
-Psyllium Husk – It’s important to move toxins and waste out of your system while on The Cleanse, and psyllium husk is a gentle laxative that is rich in fiber. It’s very effective and is the closest thing to a whole food you can have during the detox.
-Laxative tea (Smooth Move) – Something to use with or in place of the sea salt flush. I like the psyllium husk and tea combo best. I do recommend that you take the tea earlier in the evening as it takes a few hours to start working. I used to take it before bed, but then I’d wake up in the middle of the night…
-Wheat Grass – As a “Super Food” wheat grass has numerous benefits to the body, and because its water soluble, it can be used during The Cleanse without disrupting the process. Wheat grass contains the nutritional equivalent of pounds of fruits and vegetables, and contains high concentrations of chlorophyll, enzymes and vitamins - including vitamins A, B complex, C and E, trace elements calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium, enzymes and amino acids. A powerful antioxidant, and the chlorophyll cleanses your liver tissues and cells and purifies your blood. The main reason to use wheat grass is that it contains protein, which a lack of protein is a downside of the traditional Master Cleanse. Therefore it reduces a lot of the negative side effects of The Cleanse, including fatigue.
-Organic herb tea (decaffeinated) – The tea is a “safe” way to break up the monotony of the flavor of The Cleanse juice. Some people add the tea to the juice, but I prefer to drink it as hot tea when I can have when I start to feel hungry. I am such a Starbucks coffee drinker, and since I can’t have that while I’m cleansing, the tea is a decaffeinated alternative. By choosing green and peppermint organic teas, I take in more water plus enjoy from the benefits of each type of tea.
-Sea salt flush – It’s recommended to do a sea salt flush, but I have a gag reflex, so after several attempts, I opted to do a capsule/tea combo for my laxative. Again, it’s important to flush toxins and waste out of your system, and this is a very effective way to do so.
-Hoodia – Hoodia Gordonii belongs to the Succulent plant family which is similar to a cactus. Hoodia has been used by the indigenous people of South Africa for 100’s of years to help curb appetite. I take hoodia when the hunger starts to be a bit more than I can handle (which does happen), instead of turning to food and ruining my Cleanse. You HAVE to be careful though if you decide to purchase this product as a lot of diet pills have hoodia in them, along with other ingredients. You have to find a supplement that is 100% hoodia – no other ingredients. I found mine at GNC.
