Preparing for the Master Cleanse

Getting ready to take on this detox program is more than just reading about it and buying the ingredients. The time you are on The Cleanse is as much of a mental challenge as it is a physical one. For me, when I did the program for the first time I realized how much I eat even when I’m NOT hungry. I eat (and drink) when I am bored, when I socialize, when I’m happy, when I am depressed, when someone puts out something to sample at work… I have packed on so many extra pounds when I didn’t even NEED to eat. But I think that is the story with most of us who are overweight.

So, before you start you need to do some legwork to really prepare yourself for this process, and about 3 days before is sufficient time.

1.    Get yourself worked up and position yourself mentally (you can’t just wake up one day and decide to do and expect to stick with it)
2.    Set a date and commit
3.    Get a diary or journal (or blog!) – Write down everything you are feeling and thinking during this time – you will have some interesting revelations, and it’s great to be able to refer back to them after you have completed The Cleanse
4.    In your diary, make sure you write down things that you want to get out of this and afterwards, and keep reminding yourself throughout of what you want to accomplish with this detox
5.    You should also write down things that would happen if you don’t complete the process
6.    Plan some things to do during this time (including pampering yourself!) – You need to keep yourself occupied so you don’t focus what you can’t have…
Remove everything from the house that could tempt you to cheat – knowing that your favorite ice cream is in the fridge can become unbearable
